DAYS ON END
Mylor, Cornwall

The oyster dredging boats of Mylor have populated the Carrick Roads fishery for centuries. Boats powered by wind, dredges pulled by hand, day in day out for generations. In the face of economic hardship and the efficiencies of the modern world, it is remarkable that this industry still persists. The oystermen of Carrick Roads represent a reluctance to let go of what preceded us. A defiance to surrender fully to the modern world and its pace.  They exemplify the deep mastery of one’s craft, and the grasping to a hope that we may not yet lose the wisdom of our past.
